As we age, the NAD+ levels in the whole body start to decrease and as a result, cellular dysfunction and metabolic disorders kick in. Some experts suggest regular exercise and a healthy diet can help revive NAD+ levels naturally. However, many people find NMN supplements to be an easy route for achieving it without diet modifications and workouts. Users report that taking NMN has helped them improve their energy levels and stamina.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned selling NMN dietary supplements in 2022 in the United States. The supplement industry was appalled by the decision. The NMN supplements were sold in varied proportions and without regulations during that period.

Although many attempts are made by certain quarters to defend NMN and advocate its use, the FDA continues to hold its stand that no scientific evidence has been found to substantiate it providing health benefits.  

My Personal Decision To Stop Taking NMN

I have been using NMN for the past few months as I was convinced that it enhances energy metabolism and prevents age-related gene expression. While I was taking NMN, I found it had positive effects on my health. I felt more energetic and it elevated my mood. However, the benefits were only temporary and I experienced very often acute muscle cramps and headaches. 

This along with the recent developments of the FDA banning NMN, made me rethink about taking NMN supplements. I cannot see it anymore as a safe option that helps healthy and sustainable living and I no longer take it. The fact that NMN is still being investigated and has not yet been cleared as a healthy substance should make all those think twice before continuing with its use.
